Stefan Riemens is een echte avonturier. Eind augustus begon hij aan een nieuwe uitdaging als fysiotherapeut in Alexandri\u00eb, Egypte. Met eerdere woonervaringen in landen zoals Jemen, China, Kazachstan en de Verenigde Staten was hij op zoek naar iets compleet anders. ‘Ik merkte dat de Westerse cultuur eentonig werd en wilde een unieke ervaring. De stap naar Egypte is precies dat.’<\/p>\n\n\n\n

De voorbereidingsfase<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Tijdens de coronaperiode begon Stefan te onderzoeken wat zijn mogelijkheden waren in Egypte. Tijdens zijn zoektocht kwam hij in contact met Korint\u00ae, die hem informeerden over nieuwe vacatures. ‘De persoonlijke benadering van Korint\u00ae gaf me vertrouwen. Ze hielpen me met alles: van het sollicitatieproces tot praktische zaken zoals het regelen van mijn verblijf.’<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stefan werd voorgesteld aan de eigenaar van de praktijk, een Nederlandstalige fysiotherapeut, en aan andere collega’s. ‘Dit gaf me de kans om vragen te stellen en me goed voor te bereiden. Ik kreeg zelfs mijn vliegticket vergoed en een verblijf geregeld, wat de overgang soepel maakte.’<\/p>\n\n\n\n

De keuze voor Egypte<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Stefan koos bewust voor Egypte vanwege de culturele verschillen en de unieke mogelijkheden. ‘Ik heb altijd internationaal gewoond, maar Egypte voelde als een compleet nieuwe uitdaging. Het biedt zoveel contrast met Europa.’ Hij voegt Egypte nu toe aan zijn indrukwekkende lijst van landen waar hij heeft gewoond, waaronder Slowakije, China en de Verenigde Staten, waar hij zijn opleiding tot fysiotherapeut afrondde.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Werken in Egypte<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Het werken in Egypte brengt zowel uitdagingen als kansen met zich mee. Stefan merkt dat de vaardigheden van het personeel vergelijkbaar zijn met die in de Westerse cultuur, maar dat de communicatie richting pati\u00ebnten een groot verschil maakt. ‘Ik zie het als mijn taak om structuur aan te brengen in hoe we informatie aan pati\u00ebnten overbrengen. Dit kan een enorme positieve impact hebben, vooral bij pati\u00ebnten met neurologische klachten.’<\/p>\n\n\n\n

De taalbarri\u00e8re is geen probleem voor Stefan. ‘De communicatie verloopt volledig in het Engels, en als een pati\u00ebnt alleen Arabisch spreekt, wordt er een tolk ingezet. De ondersteuning hierin is uitstekend. Zelfs bij administratieve taken helpen mijn collega\u2019s meteen als er iets in het Arabisch staat.’<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Toekomstperspectief<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Stefan kijkt met ambitie naar de toekomst. ‘Ik wil doorgroeien binnen ons bedrijf en stabiliteit brengen in onze vestiging in Alexandri\u00eb. We hebben plannen om uit te breiden naar andere locaties in het Midden-Oosten. Dat maakt deze ervaring nog waardevoller.’<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Een aanrader voor fysiotherapeuten<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Stefan raadt het werken in Egypte sterk aan, zowel voor professionele als persoonlijke groei. ‘Het is een geweldige kans om jezelf te ontwikkelen als fysiotherapeut. Egyptenaren zijn leergierig en waarderen je inzet enorm. Wanneer je laat zien dat je echt wilt helpen, zijn ze ontzettend vriendelijk. Het is een ervaring die je niet wilt missen.’<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Momenteel geen mogelijkheden in Egypte<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
