Types of hospitals in the Netherlands
The Netherlands has three different types of hospitals. These hospitals offer different levels of specialistic healthcare.
University medical centers are affiliated with exceeding Dutch universities. There are eight academic hospitals in the Netherlands, all of which have a variety of researchers and specialists working in them. They are able to provide more specialized care.
Teaching hospitals also work with the university medical centers to encourage the training of nurses and medical interns. They also offer some more specialized treatments and interns may accompany the doctor during procedures.
General hospitals provide a standard, even though very good, health care for less specialized problems. They will, if needed, refer patients to more specialized facilities.
